Comparison metrics :
- Resolution
- Field of view
- Dynamic range
Resolution: The resolution is the number of pixels that create the image.Below you'll see an image with various resolutions.
An image of resolution, 1920 x 1080 will have a total of 2073600 pixels.
Field of view (FOV): The field of view is defined by the horizontal and vertical angular extent that is visible to the camera, and can be varied through lens selection and zoom.
Note: The page Angle of View describes a formula to calculate FOV. However, this same formula can also be used to calculate the depth of an object given FOV and focus length. Do keep this in mind in later perception task.
Dynamic Range:
Comparison metrics :
- Field of view
- Depth perception
Quick detailed working of stereo imaging can be obtained from this website: Introduction to Stereo Imaging
Comparison metrics :
- Number of beams
- Points per second
- Rotation rate

LIDAR used in ebot is 2D LIDAR, meaning, from your experience from Task 1, it doesn't gives a 3D point cloud but a range of values about object's distance around it. From the below image, you can see the wall or obstacles boundaries perceive by a 2D LIDAR.
